Dr. Timothy Shanahan
Tim is a Distinguished Professor of Urban Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he is Director of the Center for Literacy and chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Also a member of the Common Core State Standards development team for ELA, Grades K-12 and a Principal Investigator, National Title I Study of Implementation and Outcomes: Early Childhood Language Development, Tim is an inductee into the Reading Hall of Fame, 2007. Tim was also a past president of the International Reading Association and former director of reading for Chicago Public Schools.
Dr. Douglas Fisher
Doug is a prolific writer, respected teacher and professional development expert currently teaching as a Professor of Language and Literacy Education, School of Teacher Education at San Diego State University, San Diego, CA and is the Co-Director, Center for Advancement of Reading at California State University Office of the Chancellor, in Long Beach, CA. Doug is currently working on the creation of a new charter high school in San Diego while continuing to write numerous articles, books and book chapters on issues of literacy, language arts, school reform, and inclusive education. He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Literacy Research, Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, and The California Reader and Remedial and Special Education. His recent publications include the following article and book chapters: Text Complexity: Raising Rigor in Reading (with Nancy Frey and Diane Lapp), Implementing a school-wide literacy framework: Improving achievement in an urban elementary school(with N.
