It's time to get started preparing students for the 2017 MyStudySyncTV contest. Students will work collaboratively to produce their own episode for any text or skill in the StudySync library that does not already have a StudySync® TV or SkillsTV episode. Teachers will then submit student-created videos, which mimic StudySync’s proprietary StudySync® TV and SkillsTV episodes by May 3, 2017. Video submissions are then screened by StudySync’s Curriculum and Production team and prizes are awarded to the top Middle and High School submission. Recognition is also given to Best Actor/Actress and Best Direction.
How it works:
1. Students work in groups to produce a five minute StudySync® TV or SkillsTV episode for any text or skills in the StudySync library that does NOT already have a StudySync® TV or SkillsTV episode.
2. Teachers confirm parent permissions for students to participate and submit password-protected links for all video submissions produced by students to email@example.com. See Contest Rules, below.
3. Video submissions are then screened by StudySync’s Curriculum and Production team.
4. Prizes are awarded to the top Middle School and top High School submission. A $500 Amazon Gift Card for classroom supplies will be awarded to one Middle School teacher and one High School teacher with the winning student submissions!
How to get started:
- Review the MyStudySyncTV Unit and lesson plan found in the StudySync library in the Units tab for ideas and tips.
- Have students watch several StudySync® TV and SkillsTV videos in the library for texts and poems to provide students with a framework for the project.
- Share the winning MyStudySyncTV videos from last years contest with students to inspire participants.
- Select a text from the StudySync library that does not have a StudySync® TV episode and form groups.
- Write scripts, plan the video production, film, and edit their video.
- Share final video with the teacher who, in turn, submits to StudySync.
Note: completion of the MyStudySyncTV Unit or assignments are NOT required by students for the contest.
The MyStudySyncTV Unit engages students in a truly comprehensive activity that addresses reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills. To develop an entry for the MyStudySyncTV Contest, students need to collaboratively script an episode considering how to effectively deliver a lesson to their audience. For inspiration, view the winning MyStudySyncTV episodes from last year to get an idea of what students can accomplish!
For the first time in the history of the contest, StudySync invited any student that participated in an award-winning 2016 submission or recognized role to submit an audition tape to be considered for a future StudySync® episode. A "must see" is our newly released The Highwayman episode featuring several participants of our 2016 MyStudySyncTV contest! Teacher, Elizabeth Ellison shared, "The students were absolutely thrilled, excited, and impressed to see their own classmates in the video. They can't wait to participate in this year's MyStudySyncTV contest, and neither can I." Truly an inspiration.
